Live Painting Competition Participants
Our theme this year, inspired by light festivals in, Toronto, Paris and La Valetta, is Nuit Blanche or White Night.
Below are the artists that will be competing in our Painting Competition during Light up the Night on August 24th.
As a bright eyed graduate I began a year of study at Malaspina University College (now Vancouver Island University), followed by a three year private apprenticeship with local artist Richard Hoedl. Much personal study and experimentation was next, with workshops and tutorials guiding my emerging style.
Being a part time mermaid necessitates a certain minimum of turquoise, gold, and water elements incorporated into my artwork. I love secrets and surprises and searching where I have not yet been invited. For this reason I often hide found objects, plastic dinosaurs, and messages in the backs of my paintings for other seekers to discover.
Courtenay Quist is artist living and working in the Cowichan Valley. She is driven by her love of stories, history, and the many creatures that walk, swim, fly and wriggle about on this rock in space.
A graduate from the Visual Arts and Technical Theatre program at Vancouver Island University, Francesca recently returns to the island from England where she was studying architecture and art in the beautiful countryside of Devon and the busy city of London. A painter and printmaker with a focus on plant life, Francesca’s artwork has moved towards plein air watercolour. She can be usually be found with her sketchbook, pens and watercolour crayons in the outdoors.
